Foundation:

Theoretical basis:

All team members work in close collaboration with families. There is an equitable balance of power and shared decision-making among team members in all program activities. The purpose of the CDVRT is to:

  • Engage and support parents in identifying the needs of their children and families
  • Provide effective services and support
  • Ensure that culturally competent approaches are employed to mitigate the effects of domestic violence exposure on children
Key program outcomes:
  • Decrease trauma symptoms exhibited by children as a result of intervention
  • Increase proactive/resiliency factors available to children and their non-abusive parents
  • Reduce children’s beliefs that domestic violence is their fault
  • Reduce children’s violent behaviors and other behavioral problems
  • Increase awareness of supportive adults in child’s environment who provide social supports when necessary

Evaluation Studies:

CDVRT uses several therapeutic options, including TF-CBT, PCIT, and Kids Club, which have been extensively evaluated and shown to be effective for children experiencing trauma.
