Northern Virginia Family Service, Inc., VA
The Northern Virginia Family Service, Inc. (NVFS) Multicultural Center (MC) will administer the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention in Immigrant Communities program to address the needs of immigrant domestic violence (DV) and sexual assault (SA) victims/survivors and prevent future DV in Northern Virginia. The goal of the MC’s program is to increase awareness of DV in underserved immigrant communities and expand the MC’s capacity to serve immigrant DV and SA victims/survivors and prevent future DV by developing and enhancing a continuum of essential services, including prevention programs and specialized clinical intervention for adults, children, and youth who have experienced or been exposed to DV.
Direct services to address the needs of victims/survivors will include culturally relevant advocacy, case management, mental health counseling, therapy groups, and support groups. DV prevention services will include 1) age-specific workshops for children and youth who have experienced or been exposed to DV and 2) psychoeducational workshops for non-abusing parents. NVFS will also support capacity building and training among DV service providers. NVFS will provide trainings on trauma-informed, culturally competent services and resources for immigrant families who have experienced or been exposed to DV, as well as participate in community-based projects and community outreach at DV-related trainings, meetings, and coalitions in the region.
