The Intersection of Domestic Violence and Child Welfare Levers for CHANGE
Organization:
National Center to Advance Peace for Children, youth, and families
For decades, advocates and stakeholders have called for child serving systems that reflect best practice, leverage resources to advance safety, and end systemic racism in the response to domestic violence, but effective responses remain inadequate. The Intersection of Domestic Violence and Child Welfare Levers for CHANGE (Levers for Change) turns the lessons learned from the last three decades into a compendium for state coalitions, local domestic violence programs, child welfare staff, administrators, policymakers, and other community stakeholders to learn from the past, end systemic racism, and improve outcomes for adult and child survivors of domestic violence in the child welfare system. The Levers for CHANGE offers six levers for advocacy, collaboration, and transformational change:
Commit to Antiracist Practice
Help Families with Actual Needs
Advance Legal/Policy Protections
Nurture Partnerships
Generate Relevant Research
Eliminate Incentives for Child Removal
